11 ways Google AI can help educators and students in 2025

We believe AI should benefit everyone, which is why we make products like the Gemini app and NotebookLM free of charge for anyone to use. From drafting lesson plans to breaking down complex topics, educators and students are already using Google AI both in and out of the classroom. We also offer premium tools for educators, who have been some of the earliest adopters of generative AI.

As we head into 2025, here are 11 ways educators and students can use Google AI products to continue to transform teaching and learning.

Teach and learn with helpful AI tools free of charge

1. Understand anything with AI grounded in the information you trust using NotebookLM. Upload your sources — like research papers, education standards, lecture notes and course readings. Then, NotebookLM can answer questions and generate summaries, lesson plans, study guides, discussion questions and quizzes — all with in-line citations to ensure accuracy. Plus, learn on the go with Audio Overviews, which turns documents, slides, charts and more into engaging and interactive audio discussions led by two AI hosts to get you up to speed on any topic.

2. Bring Google AI directly into your Learning Management System (LMS). Gemini Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) incorporates AI-driven products powered by Gemini — like the Gemini app, NotebookLM, Learn About and Illuminate — directly into third-party LMS software, starting with Canvas by Instructure and Powerschool Schoology Learning.

3. Access trustworthy content and information in the Gemini app. When Gemini generates a response, you can use the double check feature to evaluate whether there’s content across the web to substantiate its response. Gemini can also show you sources and related content within and below its response, including web sources with similar information and links for you to dig deeper.

4. Help teen students learn confidently and safely. The Gemini app experience for teen students has been designed to identify content that may be inappropriate to teen users and trigger policies and guardrails to help prevent inappropriate responses. It also contains a teen-friendly onboarding experience with an AI literacy video, endorsed by ConnectSafely and Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI), with tips on how to use generative AI responsibly.

5. Produce videos faster with Gemini in Google Vids. Vids provides easy video creation for teaching and learning. With Gemini in Vids, create your storyboard — complete with suggested scenes, a script, stock videos, background music and more — by providing Gemini with a simple prompt or content from Drive.

6. Get more done with Gemini in the side panel of your apps. Gemini can assist you with summarizing, analyzing and generating content by using insights gathered from your emails, documents and more — all right in the side panel of your apps, so you can stay in the flow of whatever you’re doing. We’ve expanded language support to seven additional languages, making Gemini for Workspace accessible to over 1 billion people whose first language is now supported.

7. Generate tailored vocabulary lists with Gemini in Classroom. Educators can now create custom word lists with definitions, parts of speech, and examples relevant to defined grade levels and topics. Gemini in Classroom is available to all educators with Gemini for Workspace regardless of which primary Learning Management Systems they use.

8. Personalize your AI experience with Gems in Gemini Advanced. Gems are customized versions of the Gemini app that remember your prompting instructions for future chats. You can make Gems even more helpful by uploading sources to your prompting instructions — like a student’s Individualized Education Program and some of their past assignments — to create an AI expert that can create personalized resources tailored for that student. You can also use Google’s pre-made Gems, like Learning Coach, which uses LearnLM to provide step-by-step study guidance along with helpful practice activities like quizzes and games.

9. Accelerate learning and knowledge sharing with NotebookLM Plus. NotebookLM Plus is a premium version of NotebookLM with significantly higher limits to support classes and organizations of any size. With customizable settings, shareability and usage analytics, professors can provide their students with a notebook containing their course materials — textbooks, lectures, YouTube videos and more — to equip them with on-demand AI guidance. IT admins can also upload their knowledge base to create a help center that their institution can chat with.

10. Use your Chromebook Plus to level up your teaching: Chromebook Plus is powerful enough for all that teachers do in a day, with Google AI built in. Help me write and Help me read can help you generate copy or understand text. You can generate images for video call backgrounds, use Live Translate to enable translated captions in more than 100 languages on media streams, or create AI-powered recordings with transcription with the new Recorder app. These features are all available now, along with admin controls for all generative AI features on Chromebook Plus, available to anyone 18 and older. Make sure to learn about Class tools (announced today!) to enhance classroom management of Chromebooks and engagement.

11. Search what you see while browsing with Google Lens in Chrome. Google Lens in Chrome makes it easy to search anything you see on your screen. Search within a video you're watching, a slide in a livestream or an image on a webpage. Google Lens will give you answers right there in your tab, and you can continue browsing with the new information you’ve found — like showing an item to your class or getting a definition to help understand the content.
