A new, personal health coach is coming to Fitbit
Today we’re introducing a new AI-powered personal health coach, built with Gemini. It’s a fitness trainer, a sleep coach and a health and wellness advisor — all working together to help you be your best — whether that means maximizing performance on the court, in the office or at home with family. 1
We set out to build a new kind of coach: world-class expertise that’s always available whenever you need it. It constantly adapts based on your personal health and wellness metrics and is uniquely tailored to your goals and real-life circumstances.
In October, we’ll begin rolling out a preview of the personal health coach as part of Fitbit Premium in the redesigned app available with the latest Fitbit trackers, Fitbit smart watches, and Pixel Watches.
Perform your best and hit new goals with personalized training
We all want the energy and focus to feel our best; the personal health coach acts as a fitness trainer that builds a plan around what you want to achieve while taking into account the rest of your needs.
- Custom routines: Just like with a real trainer, your journey starts with a conversation about your goals, preferences and equipment. It will build you a personalized fitness plan, with detailed workout suggestions and metric targets that focus on weekly progression.
- Workouts based on data: The coach will constantly adjust your workout plans based on real-time data and daily insights, helping meet your goals and celebrate your successes. For example, if you wake up with a low readiness because of a poor night sleep, it will automatically suggest changes to adjust your weekly plan to help you recover.
- Real-time check-ins and adjustments: And when life gets in the way, you can connect with the coach at any time to make adjustments, share how you are feeling and get advice. For example, if you tweak your back, tell the coach and get suggestions to adjust your workout.
Discover what you need so you can rest and recover
You can’t hit your goals if you aren’t well-rested — and the personal health coach brings Fitbit’s deep understanding of sleep to you in new ways.
- New sleep algorithms: Sleep coaching starts with understanding your sleep like never before, with new advanced algorithms that give you a more precise understanding of your sleep duration and stages.
- Sleep quality insights: Your sleep coach looks at your sleep over the week, spotting patterns and giving insights on how to improve your sleep quality over time. For example, your coach will point out areas to focus on, like noticing you’re taking a long time to fall asleep on weekdays or helping you overcome jetlag after a recent trip.
- Adapted sleep schedules: And to help you understand how much sleep you really need to perform and feel your best, your sleep coach will provide a personalized schedule that adapts to your daily activity levels. For example, it might add 35 minutes to help you recover from a challenging workout the day before.
Get a holistic view of your health and wellness answers and insights
When we look for health answers, we face a frustrating paradox: there's an overwhelming amount of information that’s written for everyone in general and no one in particular. The personal health coach takes all facets of your wellbeing into consideration.
- Help that changes as you do: Your personal health coach gets to know you as you progress on your health journey — learning your preferences and the ups and downs you share. It also takes your real-time metrics from your Fitbit or Pixel Watch into account. And with support for Health Connect and HealthKit, your coach can understand even more of your health and wellness data — like weight from your favorite smart scale or your glucose data.
- Answers to questions: You can ask your coach any question and get truly personalized answers that are backed by science — ask things like, “should I get an extra hour of sleep or workout tomorrow morning?”, “I’m feeling stressed right now. What can I do?” and “What are the best exercises for weight loss?”
- Insights and highlights: Your coach is always looking out for you. It proactively shares trends in your health and wellness, offering suggestions to help you stay on track or make improvements.
Find the personal health coach in the redesigned Fitbit app
The Fitbit app has been reimagined with coaching and AI at its core. The entire app was rebuilt so the health coach can understand your goals, build your plan, contextualize your metrics and bring insights at the right moments. We’ve also made a number of improvements that address common user suggestions — like more intuitive data visualization, easier layouts to find information, improved syncing — and of course, dark mode.

To ensure our coach is grounded in science, we’ve partnered with Stephen Curry and his performance team, and we’re also working closely with our Consumer Health Advisory Panel, a diverse group of leading experts in medicine, AI and behavioral science. Our leadership in this area can be seen in our continued research, which includes work on our Personal Health Large Language Model, published in Nature Medicine.
